- Fall Parent/Teacher Conference: These will be held on Monday, October 10th (no school day). You will have the opportunity to choose between a "virtual" appointment or "In-Person" appointment. Your conference will be approximately 15 minutes. A sign up sheet was sent out via email yesterday, September 22nd.
- Bluebonnet Book Program: Our class's goal for each student is to read 5 books! The Bluebonnet Program goes until mid-January so we have plenty of time to read, read, read. So, let's get to it!

What's Been Happening In Class?
- Writing: Personal Narrative (small moment writing). This week we have brainstormed small moment ideas, chosen a small moment for our personal narrative, and stretched out this small moment in a process called "Exploding the Moment". Next week we will learn and add a "lead" or "hook" to our personal narrative as we write our rough draft.
- Reading: We have started our next unit - Informational or Nonfiction Reading. This week we compared and contrasted between fiction and nonfiction books. We also identified nonfiction text features in magazines and nonfiction books.
- Math:
- Swyers and Lilleboe Students: We are currently in our new unit - Fractions. In this unit students will:
- Identify fractional units - fractions in a set, area model, bar model, number line fractions
- Compose and decompose fractional units
- Compare fractions
- Equivalent fractions
- Word problem solving with fractions
- Bae/Jones/McKenzie students: Will start their new math unit on Tuesday which is Multiplication and Division.
- Swyers and Lilleboe Students: We are currently in our new unit - Fractions. In this unit students will:
- Science: Changing Matter Unit - Examine the heating and cooling process with water. Student should be able to describe and explain how water changes from a solid - liquid - gas with adding and removing heat using unit vocabulary (melt, freeze, evaporation, condensation, adding heat, removing heat, water vapor). Next week we will look at physical properties of matter as we observe and analyze mixtures.
- Social Studies: We are continuing our discussion on "being a good citizen" and we learned about Constitution Day! Plus, we are learning about leaders and inventors from US History (Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison).
