- Class Dojo - We started a fun, interactive behavior communication program this week. The kids love Class Dojo! They check regularly during the day to see how they are doing. They continue to amaze me with helpful suggestions and comments to help build a strong, loving community in our classroom. If you haven't had a chance yet, make sure to download the FREE Class Dojo app for your phone. This way you can "check in" on how your kiddo is doing at anytime of day! Feel free to send me or your kiddo messages via Class Dojo style! Also, your child can log into Class Dojo too. The invitation that was sent home on Monday has the Parent and the Student log in codes.

In Reading, we've almost wrapped up our Informational (nonfiction) text unit. We are so close to finishing our endangered animal popplets (graphic organizers). I really hope we can finish these up next week. The reading strategy we worked on this week was: Retelling/Summarizing a story and Sequencing. We practiced these skills in a variety of ways this week. We read picture books (short stories), then retold the story to our reading partner. Finally, each student completed a "Story Map" explaining the setting, characters, problem/solution and beginning/middle/end of the story using their picture book. We also worked as a class on a reading passage then answered a few multiple choice questions that focused on "sequencing events". Next week, we'll focus specifically on Summary (Beginning, Middle and End). We'll write a summary on our own and practice identifying a "complete" summary like what is seen on the STAAR.
In Writing, we took time to reflect on our Spring Break Reading Plan. The kids did a great job being honest about the amount of reading they did and if they actually read books from their Reading Plan. We also spent a day on writing conventions: Subject - Verb Agreement. Lastly, we took a day and discussed some needed conflict resolution skills. We did this by reviewing Kelso's choices and reflecting on our own ability to deal with small conflicts that may arise with fellow classmates from time to time.
In Math, we started our next unit which is a review on Place Value and Financial Literacy. This week we focused on Place Value. Next week we will dive into Financial Literacy (income, expenses, interest, etc).
In Science, we started in on our next unit - Animal Adaptations, Traits and Life Cycles. We also got the opportunity to work with our Kinder Buddies this week on a science project. Lastly, we had a guest speaker from KVUE news, meteorologist, Nathan Gogo.
Read Aloud Time, we started a new Bluebonnet Book called Woof.
