Weekly Update #20: January 22 - January 26

Announcements:​

• Science Night: Come and enjoy a fun night of science!  There will be activities, presenters and food trucks to buy your family dinner. It's THIS Friday - So come and join the fun!!
• Music Recorder Form - This "green" form came home in Thursday folders last week. Please, fill it out and return it with $5.00 (check or cash) by THIS Friday, January 26th. 
• Scholastic Book Orders Due Soon - The January Scholastic Book Orders are due Tuesday, January 30th. Place your orders online - Your Class Activation Code NP79X.  The link to order is HERE.
• Valentine Boxes and Valentine Cards - A pink flyer is going home in THIS Thursday's folder about decorating a Valentine Box and making Valentine cards for each classmate. The list of students in our class is on the BACK of the pink flyer. Please, bring these items to school on February 14th. 
• Six Flag Reading Program - The form came home yesterday in Thursday folders. Please, read and follow the directions on the form. Students can turn this form in anytime before February 23rd.

​What's Been Happening In Class?  

• Writing: This week our focus was on grammar conventions (Conjunctions) and practicing our revising/editing skills. There will be a revising/editing skills DCA in a couple of weeks. 
• Reading: We are deep into our Biography unit. The kids have read chapters 7 and 8 this week in their Biography Book Club book and taken post it notes for each chapter. Some students have yet to complete these chapters and notes. Please ask your child if they brought home their biography book and reading journal for this activity to complete over the weekend. We have started our Biography Book Club Google Presentations. The kids can show you want this looks like and work on it at home if they want to by logging into their Google school account. Information is in your child's blue folder. 
• Math: We are continuing with our next unit, Geometry. We reviewed this Geometry vocabulary this week: polygon, congruent, similar, 2-dimensional shapes, diagonal, triangle, quadrilateral (squares, rectangles, rhombus, trapezoids, parallelograms), hexagon, pentagon. We also learned how to find the area of a square or rectangle using 3 different strategies (counting each square unit, skip counting each row of square units, and multiplying length and width).  We will continue with area next week and review 3D shapes (cone, prisms, pyramids, polyhedron) too.  
• Science: We are currently in our Soils and Natural Resouces Unit. We started learning about Natural Resources this week which is part of soils unit. Study links are under the "Science Links" tab.   Our test is scheduled for January 30th. 
• Social Studies:
