- Project Lead the Way: New fun, interactive way to learn the Design Process. We completed our first module this week in Science using the Design Process. Our focus was on learning about "structure" and "function" and how they relate to all man-made things in our lives. The kids got the chance to be little engineers, where they planned, constructed and evaluated their structures. Did their structure perform the function that was intended? We will do a few more Project Lead the Way modules throughout the school year.
- Hurricane Harvey Relief Program - lead by Austin Relief: Help us support our fellow Texans by giving to help those people in need from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Bring in these items to our classroom. We need these items below create kits: Large plastic tub with lid, one small pillow, one thin blanket, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, comb, brush, deodorant, 2 wash cloths, 2 towels, 5 jars of baby food, wipes, Kleenex, 1 package of diapers, cloth duffel bag, and a note of encouragement.
- Scholastic Book Orders: It is vital that your child read everyday for 20 - 30 minutes. Ideally, it would be best if you read with your child so that they can practice their fluency, articulation and comprehension skills. Reading STAAR is this year, so keep your child reading!!! Orders are due by September 28th. Place your orders online - Your Class Activation Code NP79X). The link to order is HERE. We have a Class Wish List here too if you so choose to purchase books for our classroom library as well. These kids love to read!!! Plus, I get points for every book order that is placed, which means tons of FREE books for our classroom. Please, take a moment to look at the flyers online and place an order. You can order from other grade levels too!
- Math Superstars: This is an excellent source for keeping up with those math skills. Awards and prizes are given out to those students that complete the worksheet each week and turn it in. Check out England's PTA website or our 3rd grade website for the Math Superstar worksheets.
- Home Access Center: Make sure to start checking Home Access soon. Keep trying. Hopefully it will be up next week so you can log in. I will begin to post grades next week. Link to Home Access Center.
- Headphones: Your child may still need headphones or earbuds for our classroom. These can be purchased at Target, Walmart, HEB, etc. The headphones/earbuds will be left here at school.
- Wobble Stools - Wobble stools are an alternative desk seating option for your child. Wobble stools help provide students with the ability to wiggle as they sit. They help some students to focus more on their work too. This is a parent purchased item. With that said, at the end of the year the wobble stool is yours. Your child can then use them in 4th and 5th grade. I would recommend the 18" stool. Here are a couple of websites of where to make this purchase if you are interested.
