Announcements:
  • Field Trip: Our field trip is coming up on Tuesday! The kids are so excited! Please, remember to pack your child a lunch from home. The only students I have buying a lunch from the cafeteria are: Brant, Bennett, Ethan M, Nikita and Soumith. The weather looks like it will be a bit chilly. Please, make sure to your child brings his/her coat that day!!
  • Our Class's Technology Day (Reward): The kids have earned their Technology Day!  They've been working really hard for this, earning points on Class Dojo each day!  With that said, the kids will get time to play on their OWN device this upcoming Tuesday from 1:30 - 2:30pm (Our field trip is the same day from 8:45am - 1:15pm). Rules and Guidelines that students must follow when bringing their own device are in an email that I sent out today. Please, read over these rules and guidelines with your child.
  • Progress Report Cards: Progress report cards for the 2nd Nine Week Grading Period will be coming out in Thursday folders next week.  Check Home Access every week with your child to stay on top of his/her assignments.
  • Thank You: Thank you to Carsten's parents for getting our class another Bluebonnet book. Greatly appreciated.
  • Bluebonnet Book Program: Our class's goal for each student to read 5 books! The Bluebonnet Program goes until mid-January so we have plenty of time to read, read, read. So, let's get to it!

What's Been Happening In Class?
  • Writing: We learned the structure of an Expository Writing Essay. Then, used this structure to begin our own expository essay. Feel free to ask your child to bring his/her writing journal home so you can see all of our writing this year!!
  • Reading:  We are deep into our Nonfiction Unit in Reading. We spent the week really diving into Main Idea using a variety of activities (Main Idea Cones, The Wonderful Octopus) and reading on Newsela.
  • Math: We started our next unit ....Fractions! We learned a ton of vocabulary: Unit Fraction, Denominator, Numerator, Fraction Bars, Area Model, Fraction Set, Equal Parts, Whole, Half, Fourth, Eighth, Thirds, Sixths. We'll continue next week on Fractions as we explore using a number line to represent fractions too (think...a ruler) and comparing fractions.  This test will be after Thanksgiving Break.
  • Science: We started our next unit: Forces, Gravity, Magnetism and Simple Machines. Much of this unit is doing various hands-on experiments. It is critical that your child be here for Science time (1:45 - 2:45pm) each day. Thank you. The test for this unit will be after Thanksgiving break.
  • Social Studies: We watched a PBL video called "Plastic Planet", discussed it as a class, and completed some response questions in our notebooks. We also went to our school's Veteran's Day Assembly to celebrate and honor our country's veterans.
