Weekly Update #1: August 22 - August 25

Announcements:

• Class Dojo - We will start a fun, interactive behavior communication program this upcoming week.  The kids love Class Dojo!  They will get a chance to check how they are doing during the day to adjust behavior if needed or celebrate their awesome efforts! They continue to amaze me with helpful suggestions and comments to help build a strong, loving community in our classroom. There is a FREE app that will work on most smart phones. I highly recommend downloading this FREE app so that you can "check in" on how your kiddo is doing at anytime of day!  Feel free to send me or your kiddo messages via Class Dojo style too! The invitation was sent home yesterday in Thursday folders. It has the Parent and the Student log in codes to access Class Dojo. So sign up today!!
• Wobble Stools  - Wobble stools are an alternative desk seating option for your child. Wobble stools help provide students with the ability to wiggle as they sit. They help some students to focus more on their work too. This is a parent purchased item. With that said, at the end of the year the wobble stool is yours. Your child can then use them in 4th and 5th grade. I would recommend the 18"  stool. Here are a couple of websites of where to make this purchase if you are interested. Really Good Stuff - Wobble Stool  and Active Learning Stool - Amazon.com 
• Headphones: Your child may still need headphones or earbuds for our classroom.  These can be purchased at Target, Walmart, HEB, etc. The headphones/earbuds will be left here at school.​
• Our Library Day:  Our class's library day and time will be Fridays at 9:45am. Kids got to check out books today!  Yippee!  These books are due back in 2 weeks.  Please, be respectful of the books - no food or drinks, keep away from pets and younger siblings. Third graders are allowed to check out audiobooks (Play Aways). There is a form in the library that must be completed by the student's parents and returned.

What's Been Happening In Class?  

• Writing: Completed a "Third" grade writing flip book. 
• Reading: Introduced Reading Workshop and got book boxes. 
• Math: All About Me Math. Created a bar graph, dot plot graph and pictograph.  
• Science: Many hands-on team building activities - Saving Fred, Toothpick Tower, Yank the Cup
• Social Studies: Growth Mindset - learning about how our brains grow the each mistake!
