What's Been Happening In Class?
- Writing: This week our focus was on the One Little Word project. Students decided on one word they wanted to "live by" this year. Then, we wrote about our word, giving the reasons why we chose this word. Lastly, we created a collage with our picture, our written reasons for our word choice, and clippings from magazines and/or images from online. Our posters will be on display in our classroom as our constant reminder of our one little word. :)
- Reading: We are deep into our Nonfiction Unit in Reading. We got into Biography Book Club groups. We've been reading and taking down note facts about our person. We just finished chapter 5 today in class. We'll wrap up the book next week and also create a Biography Google Presentation using all of our notes we have collected. There will also be a Reading DCA Test (nonfiction) next Friday.
- Math: We started our next unit: Geometry. We've reviewed tons of vocabulary that was taught in second grade, but we must review in third grade before moving forward. These words were: polygon, two dimensional shapes, open vs closed shape, sides, vertices, triangle, quadrilateral, square, rectangle, rhombus, parallel, parallelogram, pentagon, hexagon, congruent, similar. Next week, we'll continue with trapezoids, 3D shapes, edges, faces....
- Science: We started our next unit: soils and natural resources. We briefly discussed what makes up soil and why it is important with a fun soil study activity.
- Social Studies: We reviewed our class's social contract. We created a new one for 2019 with a list of consequences too. The kids created both the contract and the consequences list. Pictures are below.
- Eslot: Kinder Buddy Activity
