Announcements:​
  • Wow!  Thank You Parents! I am truly amazed by the number of gifts I received from all of you for the holiday season. Your generosity and kind words is truly heart warming. I can't thank you all enough. :)
  • Awesome Day with Kinder Buddies: On Wednesday afternoon, we spent some time creating a fun, wintry picture with our Kinder Buddies. I love to watch my students work with younger students in our school. They are such amazing teachers, leaders and role models for our Kinder Buddies. Pictures below.
  • Great Third Grade Winter Party:​  Thank you all so much for donating items and volunteering your time to our Winter Party. A special "Thank You" to our classroom mom, Indu (Krishna's mom) for helping to get the word out with emails to all our parents about the party and the Party Supply Sign Up. 
  • Bluebonnet Book Program: Our class's goal for each student is to read 5 books! The Bluebonnet Program goes until mid-January so we have plenty of time to read, read, read.  So let's get to it! Last day to complete any bluebonnet book quiz is January 25th.

  • January 25 - Last day to take any bluebonnet book quiz (end of program)
  • January 26 - Last day to turn in "green" Music Recorder form and money!

​What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: This week our focus was on having some fun writing about the snow/winter season using a variety of "writing prompts" to start our stories. 
  • Reading: We continue to read and practice our comprehension strategies as we read. This week we used a "Padlet" to collect our reading responses this week. Our next unit when we return will be Biographies!
  • Math: We took our Unit 4 and Unit 5 Math DCA (Fractions/Division test) on Monday. We also started our next unit, Geometry. We reviewed this Geometry vocabulary this week: polygon, congruent, similar, 2-dimensional shapes, diagonal, triangle, quadrilateral (squares, rectangles, trapezoids), hexagon, pentagon. We had fun with the "4 Triangle Challenge" today!
  • Science: We reviewed and took our Unit 5 DCA test this week. When we return from winter break we will dive into our Soils Unit. 
  • Social Studies: 
  • Enrichment: Break Out Boxes and Kinder Buddies

Announcements:​
  • End of Semester Grades:  ALL assignments and tests for the second nine week grading period must be turned in by next Wednesday, December 20th. Please, check Home Access with your child to make sure ALL assignments have been completed. An "M" means your child is Missing that assignment. 
  • Special Thank You! Thank you to Casey's mom for coming in and decorating our classroom door for the holiday season (picture below).  Another thank you goes out Richard's dad for purchasing 2 more Bluebonnet books for our classroom (Best Man and Follow The Moon Home).
  • Cocoa Grams: Went home this week for those that ordered them!
  • Third Grade Winter Party: The party is scheduled for this Thursday, December 21 at 1:30pm. Our Classroom Mom, Mrs. Nair sent out an email last week about the party, the supplies and volunteers needed to make this party a success!  The link to help out and sign up is HERE.

​What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: We are still in our Expository writing and informational research unit. This week our focus was  on finishing our final draft of our expository essays and learning how to use commas in our writing. 
  • Reading: Our current unit is Informational Text (nonfiction reading).  We continued to read more nonfiction  and develop our reading comprehension strategies (compare/contrast, cause/effect, looking for information using nonfiction text features). Lastly, we completed our first nonfiction reading passage with questions (similar format to STAAR) this week. 
  • Math: We are deep into our next unit: Division. We've learned a variety of ways to solve a division problem (equal groups, arrays, skip counting, repeated subtraction and number lines).  A review packet has gone home today for your child to complete to help prepare for the upcoming test.
  • Science:  We are in our Landforms and Earth's Forces (Volcanos/Earthquakes/Landslides) unit. We had some fun doing a variety of experiments/activities this week (see pictures below). There are links for additional practice under the "Science Links" tab. The test (DCA) will be on December 19th.
  • Social Studies: We learned more about the 13 colonies this week reading a book on True Flix "The Massachusetts Colony"
  • Enrichment: We had our Technology Day (reward)!!

  • December's Scholastic Book Orders: Get your child the gift of reading for the holidays.  Place your orders online - Your Class Activation Code NP79X.  The link to order is HERE.   Order from any of the online flyers!  Thank you for all your amazing support and online orders are due TOMORROW!!
  • Third Grade T-Shirts: Please return the t-shirt order form and money by Wednesday, December 13th. It's critical that we get the order in next week. Please, let me know if you need a new order form. I can send one home with your child on Monday. Thanks

​What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: We are still in our Expository writing and informational research unit. This week our focus was  on writing our expository essays. We brainstormed, wrote our rough draft and revise/edited our essays. If students did not get these 3 items completed this week, they were to take their writing journal home to complete over the weekend. Return writing journals on Monday as we will be writing our final drafts.   
  • Reading: Our current unit is Informational Text (nonfiction reading).  We reviewed main idea and supporting details this week along with learning the difference between Facts and Opinions. We also  learned and practice the Compare and Contrast reading strategy. We'll continue to read more nonfiction next week and develop our reading comprehension strategies. 
  • Math: We are deep into our next unit: Division. We've learned a variety of ways to solve a division problem (equal groups, arrays, skip counting, repeated subtraction and number lines). Our test for Fractions/Division/Multiplication will be December 15 or 18th. 
  • Science:  We are deep into our new unit Landforms and Earth's Forces (Volcanos/Earthquakes/Landslides). Next week we'll do a variety of experiments/activities as we explore landslides, volcanoes and earthquakes. There are links for additional practice under the "Science Links" tab. My hope is to have the test on December 19 or 20th. 
  • Social Studies: We are in our Maps unit. We created a topography map of the United States and practiced reading maps too. 
  • Enrichment: We had eslot today!
