Announcements:
  • Last Day for Scholastic Book Orders: If you wanted to get your child or any other family member a book or two for winter break or as a present, you need to place your online order TODAY! Order Here.
  • Leaving before December 19th: Are you planning on starting winter break early??  We do have assignments and tests all the way up to December 19th.  Students will need to complete assignments or take tests (DCAs) before leaving on vacation, otherwise a "missing" score will be put into Home Access. Please, notify Mrs. Lilleboe in advance. Thank you!!
  • Apex Fun Run: Is an exciting way for our school to raise money!  We will have an assembly next week to kick-off this fundraiser next week. Be looking for more information to be coming home soon!!!
  • Bluebonnet Book Program: Our class's goal for each student to read 5 books! The Bluebonnet Program goes until mid-January so we have plenty of time to read, read, read. So, let's get to it​!

What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: This week our focus was on "contractions" in spelling. We will have our spelling quiz next Friday. Then, we starting our Pen Pal letters to our new Pen Pals in England!  We will be communicating through letters with another 3rd grade class in England. The kids are super excited to have a writing Pen Pal in another country. 
  • Reading:  We are deep into our Nonfiction Unit in Reading. We spent the week learning a couple of new reading strategies - cause and effect using the book, A River Ran Wild. We also wrote our first cause and effect summary too. Lastly, we did some reading on our PBL project using Newsela. 
  • Math: We wrapped up our unit on fractions this week with a quiz. We will have a combined unit test before winter break on December 19th over fractions and division. Therefore, our next unit is division! 
  • Science: We are wrapping up our unit: Forces, Gravity, Magnetism and Simple Machines. We took our DCA test yesterday. Test scores are already in Home Access. Our next unit is Earth's Forces - Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Landslides. This DCA test will be on December 18th.  
  • Social Studies: We learned more about the first Thanksgiving and who were the pilgrims!

  • Progress Report Cards: Progress report cards for the 2nd Nine Week Grading Period came out yesterday in Thursday folders.  No need to sign and return. Check Home Access every week with your child to stay on top of his/her assignments. 
  • Bluebonnet Book Program: Our class's goal for each student to read 5 books! The Bluebonnet Program goes until mid-January so we have plenty of time to read, read, read. So, let's get to it​!

What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: We are continuing to practice the structure of an Expository Writing Essay. We wrote an Expository Essay on the prompt "What are you thankful for?" These essays will be stapled up outside my classroom soon.
  • Reading:  We are deep into our Nonfiction Unit in Reading. We spent the week learning a couple of new reading strategies - the difference between Fact and Opinions, the author's purpose in writing the piece, and looking for the problem and solutions in nonfiction articles. 
  • Math: We are the unit....Fractions! We explored using a number line to represent fractions (think...a ruler) and comparing fractions.  This quiz will be after Thanksgiving Break.    
  • Science: We are wrapping up our unit: Forces, Gravity, Magnetism and Simple Machines. The kids were in groups of 3-4 students this week as they built simple machines (incline plane, lever and pulley) and compound machines using the VEX Kits (similar to legos). We will take our test the Thursday after Thanksgiving break. 
  • Social Studies: We learned more about the first Thanksgiving and who were the pilgrims!

Announcements:
  • Field Trip: Our field trip is coming up on Tuesday! The kids are so excited! Please, remember to pack your child a lunch from home. The only students I have buying a lunch from the cafeteria are: Brant, Bennett, Ethan M, Nikita and Soumith. The weather looks like it will be a bit chilly. Please, make sure to your child brings his/her coat that day!! 
  • Our Class's Technology Day (Reward): The kids have earned their Technology Day!  They've been working really hard for this, earning points on Class Dojo each day!  With that said, the kids will get time to play on their OWN device this upcoming Tuesday from 1:30 - 2:30pm (Our field trip is the same day from 8:45am - 1:15pm). Rules and Guidelines that students must follow when bringing their own device are in an email that I sent out today. Please, read over these rules and guidelines with your child. 
  • Progress Report Cards: Progress report cards for the 2nd Nine Week Grading Period will be coming out in Thursday folders next week.  Check Home Access every week with your child to stay on top of his/her assignments.

What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: We learned the structure of an Expository Writing Essay. Then, used this structure to begin our own expository essay. Feel free to ask your child to bring his/her writing journal home so you can see all of our writing this year!!
  • Reading:  We are deep into our Nonfiction Unit in Reading. We spent the week really diving into Main Idea using a variety of activities (Main Idea Cones, The Wonderful Octopus) and reading on Newsela. 
  • Math: We started our next unit ....Fractions! We learned a ton of vocabulary: Unit Fraction, Denominator, Numerator, Fraction Bars, Area Model, Fraction Set, Equal Parts, Whole, Half, Fourth, Eighth, Thirds, Sixths. We'll continue next week on Fractions as we explore using a number line to represent fractions too (think...a ruler) and comparing fractions.  This test will be after Thanksgiving Break.    
  • Science: We started our next unit: Forces, Gravity, Magnetism and Simple Machines. Much of this unit is doing various hands-on experiments. It is critical that your child be here for Science time (1:45 - 2:45pm) each day. Thank you. The test for this unit will be after Thanksgiving break. 
  • Social Studies: We watched a PBL video called "Plastic Planet", discussed it as a class, and completed some response questions in our notebooks. We also went to our school's Veteran's Day Assembly to celebrate and honor our country's veterans.

  • Third Grade T-Shirts: Our third grade t-shirt can be purchased here: England PTA Leopard Store Once on the site, scroll to the bottom of the screen to see the Youth Spirit Shirts. Shirts are only $10 and are available in gray or pink. Our field trip is very soon...November 13th, so please purchase your child's shirt as soon as possible. Thank you!
  • Progress Report Cards: Progress report cards for the 2nd Nine Week Grading Period will be coming out in Thursday folders November 15th. Please, make sure all work is turned in by November 9th for this progress report card. Check Home Access every week with your child!!

What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: We spent a day on "Verbs" and then we discussed the difference between Expository Writing and Personal Narrative Writing. We'll continue with Expository Writing next week. 
  • Reading:  We started on our next unit of Nonfiction. We'll learn the various nonfiction text features, how to find the main idea, write a summary, use context clues to understand new vocabulary and so much more! We also had our Author Visit today!!  Ask your child about it. :)
  • Math: We wrapped up our Multiplication unit with a test yesterday. Test scores are in Home Access. Next unit....Fractions!
  • Science: We cooked our Smores finally in our Solar Ovens. Here's a link on how to make your own Solar Oven at home.  We started our next unit: Forces, Gravity, Magnetism and Simple Machines. Much of this unit is doing various hands-on experiments. It is critical that your child be here for Science time (1:45 - 2:45pm) each day. Thank you. The test for this unit will be after Thanksgiving break. 
  • Social Studies: We read Common Ground and began our PBL project on Conservation. We did a response to Common Ground on Padlet using the iPads today. See Below...
