What's Been Happening In Class?
- Writing: Personal Narrative (small moment writing). This week we learned 5 ways in which we can "hook" our readers. Then, we tried a couple of "hooks" or "leads" using our small moment (personal narrative) planning (double time line/explode the moment). Then, we started writing our personal narrative rough drafts. We'll continue the writing process next week.
- Reading: We are continuing in our Informational (nonfiction) reading unit. This week our focus was on identifying the main idea and supporting details. We'll continue exploring main idea next week. Plus, we'll begin learning another reading strategy: Cause and Effect
- Math:
- Swyers and Lilleboe Students: We are currently in our new unit - Fractions. In this unit students will:
- Identify fractional units - fractions in a set, area model, bar model, number line fractions
- Compose and decompose fractional units
- Compare fractions
- Equivalent fractions
- Word problem solving with fractions
- Bae/Jones/McKenzie students: Multiplication and Division. Students will use a variety of strategies to solve multiplication problems (arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, number line) and division problems (equal groups, repeated subtraction, skip counting, fact families).
- Swyers and Lilleboe Students: We are currently in our new unit - Fractions. In this unit students will:
- Science: Changing Matter Unit - Examine the heating and cooling process with water. Student should be able to describe and explain how water changes from a solid - liquid - gas with adding and removing heat using unit vocabulary (melt, freeze, evaporation, condensation, adding heat, removing heat, water vapor). Next week we will look at physical properties of matter as we observe and analyze mixtures.
- Social Studies: We are continuing our discussion on "being a good citizen" and how as a citizen we have rights and responsibilities we must follow. In addition, we took time to focus on Hispanic Heritage (a focus in the month of September).
