Announcements:
  • End-of-the-Year Party: Here is the link to the photos from the End-of-the-Year party. Enjoy! PHOTOS
  • Report Cards: Last one is coming home today in Thursday folders.
  • STAAR scores: These will be sent out over the summer via mail or by email.
  • Summer Reading Bingo: One of the best things you can do over the summer is to encourage your child to read for 20 minutes a day -- material of their choice! Mrs. Kupersztoch, our librarian, has compiled a wealth of resources about summer reading, including a Beach Blanket Bingo Challenge for each student (in Thursday folder). Check out the jam-packed Google Slides presentation containing ALL of the information and links shared with our students! Link to England's Summer Reading Info: England's Summer Reading Program
  • Summer Math Practice: The kids Prodigy student account will stay active this summer. I will "assign" 3rd grade and 4th grade math skills for kids to practice this summer to prepare for 4th grade. I would suggest kids practice using Prodigy, Khan Academy or using my "Math Links" 3 times a week (15 - 20 minutes each time). Login information for Prodigy and khan academy should be in your child's "Blue Folder". Don't let those math skills slip!!!  Start the 4th grade year strong in math and reading!!!

Announcements:
  • Parent Conference Form: Your child's conference form went home yesteday in Thursday folders. Please, take a moment to sign the "white" form and return it on Monday.
  • Field Day: This Tuesday is Field Day. The coaches are watching the weather closely to see if we will need to move it indoors. The final decision will be made on Monday. Our class will be wearing their tie dye shirts. It will be hot, so please dress your child in shorts as well. The PE coaches have strongly recommended socks and shoes for this event. Your child will also want to bring an extra pair of clothes (due to the water station - they will get very wet!) and a water bottle with his/her name on it. I also recommend that your child bring a lunch from home that day. Of course, its always a good idea to bring a hat and sunglasses too!  If you want your child to wear sunscreen, you will need to apply it to your child BEFORE they come to school.
  • Final Report Cards: Will be sent home on the last day of school.
  • STAAR scores: These will be sent out over the summer via mail or by email.
  • Summer Reading Bingo: Summer is around the corner, and one of the best things you can do over the summer is to encourage your child to read for 20 minutes a day -- material of their choice! Mrs. Kupersztoch, our librarian, has compiled a wealth of resources about summer reading, including a Beach Blanket Bingo Challenge for each student. Announcements:
  • Prodigy Math Game: Well, apparently RRISD has decided to "block" this online math game from schools. I have set the math problems on Prodigy to be all STAAR review problems. Please, have your child work on Prodigy to help review for STAAR a few times this upcoming week for at least 15 minutes each time. I apologize for this inconvenience.  Thank you for your support at home with this math review.
  • Last Nine Week Grading Period (4th quarter): Please, keep an eye on your child's grades and assignments. Typically, the last grading period is most difficult for students as they are so ready for summer!  Check Home Access with your child often (once or twice a week). The link to Home Access . Report cards will go home on the last day of school, May 23rd.
  • STAAR Assessments May 13 and May 14:  They are just around the corner.  Want to help prepare your child at home?  Suggestions for math: Khan Academy and Prodigy (students have a login already) and my "Math Links" tab are excellent online resources your child has access to. You can also create your own subscription to ixl.com and create an account for your child. It's a great math resource!  Suggestions for reading: reading comprehension passages with questions and other reading comprehension skills. Check out the "Reading Links" tab for tons of great online resources.

What's Been Happening In Class?
  • Writing: This week our focus was on Personal Narratives.
  • Reading:  We've been practicing STAAR Reading Passages in class this week as we prepare for STAAR. Plus, we are deep into our Spring Book Club groups. Ask your child what book he/she is reading for book club groups!!
  • Math: Our current unit is larger numbers in multiplication and division (associative property, distributive property, doubling/halving strategies, standard algorithm).  We'll start our Place Value unit next week, with our DCA over both units on May 17th.
  • Science: We are in the Animal and Plant Adaptation unit. We took our test yesterday. We'll start our last unit next week: Plant and Animal Life cycles (specifically ladybugs, frogs, flower plants and tomato plant). Last Science DCA will be on May 16th.
  • Social Studies: Communities over time focusing on inventions that have helped shape our society. The kids started exploring various inventors on their own this week. They will choose one inventor next week to research further and create a Google Drawing.
  • Eslot: Mother's day surprise
