Announcements:​
  • Classroom supplies needed: We are getting dangerously low on a few school supplies in our classroom. Please, consider purchasing one of these items (below) for our classroom. Items can be found on Mrs Lilleboe's Wish List (Amazon), Walmart, Target, HEB and other local stores. Thanks so much!!
    • ​These items are: glue sticks, Expo markers, rulers, and college rule notebook paper (3 hole punched).  
    • Thank you to Effie's and Yashvi's parents for contributing glue sticks and notebook paper! But we could still use more - glue sticks and Expo markers!!!
  • Economics Fair Information:  Everyone should be working on his/her Economics Fair Products. Remember, each student needs to make 35 - 40 items for the Economics Fair by March 6.  Students will need to turn in their "yellow" form on Thursday, March 1 for the next teacher signature. Your child can complete more than this portion on the "yellow" form before Tuesday if they wish. Store receipts can be stapled to the form that list materials purchased and prices. 
  • Scholastic Book Orders: - The February Scholastic Book Orders are due Wednesday, February 28th. Place your orders online - Your Class Activation Code NP79X.  The link to order is HERE.  Thank you to Varun's and Sarah's parents for making an online book order this month!!

​What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: This week our focus was on writing an expository essay. We spent a day revising and editing our essays and yesterday the kids wrote their final drafts. 
  • Reading:  This week we began our next unit: Informational (nonfiction) Text and Research our PBL project. We took a closer look at some images of Habitat Loss and discussed the issues (problems) surrounding habitat loss. 
  • Math: Our Geometry/Multiplication/Division unit DCA was today. Our next unit is Fractions (comparing fractions and equivalent fractions). Kids can start reviewing fractions at home by using the "Math Links" 
  • Science:  We started our next unit - Space!  This week we studied and learned about the Sun, Earth and the Moon. We discussed and illustrated the Sun, Earth and Moon's relationships to each other (orbits, rotations, day/night). Next week we will construct a model of the Sun, Earth and Moons rotations. Plus, we'll begin researching about the planets in our Solar System. Test is currently scheduled for March 8.
  • Social Studies:  This unit is Economics (financial literacy). We've learned how Supply and Demand work together and how they effect the price of an item. We also discussed "scarcity" in depth and also how this will effect Demand and Price. 
  • Enrichment: PBL Activity - Plastic Planet Video & Common Ground Book

​What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: This week our focus was on writing an expository essay (writing about a topic we know alot about) in the expository essay format (Introduction with topic sentence, body with 3 developed paragraphs, conclusion). We will revise and edit this piece next week and complete our final draft by next Thursday. 
  • Reading:  Our next unit  is Traditional Tales (folktales, fables, myths, legends). We practiced summary/retell reading strategies as we read a variety of folktales this week. We reviewed  "theme" and how to figure out the "theme" or the "lesson learned" in a story too. Next week we will begin our next unit: Informational (nonfiction) Text and Research our PBL project. 
  • Math: We are now into our 2nd multiplication/division unit for the year. We have learned our 1's and 9's facts this week. We will continue next week with 3's and 6's. Our Geometry/Multiplication/Division unit DCA will be on February 23rd. Please, use my "Math links" on this website for additional support and review at home. A review packet will be going home next week. 
  • Science:  We learned about the various weather tools (pictures below) as we prepared for our test today. Next unit is Space (sun, moon, earth rotations and solar system).
  • Social Studies:  This unit is Economics (financial literacy). We learned about Need vs Wants and Goods vs Services. We will continue with this unit for the next few weeks.

  • Economics Fair Information:  All 23 of our students have selected a product to make and sell at our Economics Fair!!  Now its time to purchase supplies and get started!!  Students will need to turn in their "yellow" form on Tuesday for the next teacher signature. Your child can complete more than this portion on the "yellow" form before Tuesday if they wish. Store receipts can be stapled to the form that list materials purchased and prices. 
  • Valentine's Day Party Supplies and Volunteers - To make our Third Grade Valentine's Party awesome, we need your help!  Please, consider donating supplies or your time for the party. Click on this Link to sign up!  Thank you parents!!!
  • Valentine Boxes and Valentine Cards - A pink flyer went home in Thursday's folders over a week ago about decorating a Valentine Box and making Valentine cards for each classmate. The list of students in our class is on the BACK of the pink flyer. If you have misplaced the class list click HERE. Please, bring these items to school on this Wednesday, February 14th. 
  • Six Flag Reading Program - The form came home yesterday in Thursday folders. Please, read and follow the directions on the form. Students can turn this form in anytime before February 23rd.

  • Writing: This week our focus was on grammar conventions (Contractions) and practicing our revising/editing skills. There will be a revising/editing skills DCA in a couple of weeks. 
  • Reading:  Our next unit  is Traditional Tales (folktales, fables, myths, legends). We practiced summary/retell reading strategies as we read a variety of folktales this week. We also learned about "theme" and how to figure out the "theme" or the "lesson learned" in a story too.

  • Science: We started our weather unit this week. We tracked the weather of 2 Texas cities for 5 days, then drew some comparisons between the cities using our data. We also did a couple assignments on STEMscopes (weather mapping, interactive activity, reading science). Next week we will learn about the various weather tools as we prepare for our test next Friday. 
  • Social Studies:  This unit is Economics (financial literacy). We learned about Need vs Wants and Goods vs Services. We will continue with this unit for the next few weeks. 
  • Enrichment: PBL Activity with Mrs. Raney's class and Ms. Potral's class.

  • Economics Fair Information:  The Economics Fair Information sheets went home yesterday in Thursday folders.  There was a parent letter (blue) that explains the project requirements and expectations.  The other form (yellow) is for you and your child to complete over the next 5 - 6 weeks as your child begins to work on his/her project. ***Congrats to Shlok for placing 5th in Music Memory at the UIL District Contest last weekend. He goes onto Regionals!


​What's Been Happening In Class?  
  • Writing: This week our focus was on grammar conventions (Contractions) and practicing our revising/editing skills. There will be a revising/editing skills DCA in a couple of weeks. 
  • Reading: We wrapped up our Biography Unit with a test this week on Tuesday. We still have a fe students that need to finish their  Biography Book Club Google Presentations. The kids can show you want this looks like and work on it at home if they want to by logging into their Google school account. Information is in your child's blue folder. Our next unit we will start on Monday is Traditional Tales (folktales, fables, myths, legends). 
  • Math: We are continuing with our next unit, Geometry.  We review 3D shapes (cone, prisms, pyramids, polyhedron) and learned some new vocabulary too (edges, vertices, faces).  Kids can continue to brush up on their Geometry skills by using my "Math links". We will start our 2nd Multiplication Unit next week. 
  • Science: We wrapped up our Soils and Natural Resources Unit with a test on Tuesday. We will start our next unit, Weather next week!
  • Social Studies:  Next unit is Economics (financial literacy). 
  • Enrichment: Jazz Concert and New Coding Apps - Daisy the Dinosaur, Code-a-pillar, Lightbot
