Lunch Information, Snacks & Birthdays
Lunch. Your child has the option to bring their lunch from home or purchase a school lunch. There are three choices offered daily. You will receive a copy of the lunch menu in your Thursday folder to help you plan. You have the option to pay for the entire month or for as many or few meals as you feel comfortable. Your child will have a card that will work similar to a debit card. Your child will scan the card when they purchase lunch from the cafeteria and the cost will be deducted from their account. This money should be paid to the cafeteria in advance of the day your child wishes to eat school lunch. You may also add money to your child's account by going to My School Bucks. There is a link to this website on the Welcome page.
If you choose to have your child purchase a school lunch, you have an online payment option:
Snacks. Your child may bring a healthy snack each day to be eaten during snack time. We will continue with our learning during snack time so please select easy-to-eat healthy finger foods. Please do not send snacks that will leave your child's hands messy or sticky, or that require a spoon to eat, in order to prevent damaging their class work or our classroom library books.
Snacks are to be kept separate from lunch to reduce confusion and limit the loss of instructional time spent digging through lunch boxes searching for their snack.
Some healthy snack options are: carrot and celery sticks, cucumber slices, crackers, granola bars, grapes, a banana, an apple, orange
slices, raisins, no mess apple sauce pouch, banana chips, dried fruit, cheese sticks, trail mix, etc.
Water Bottles. Your child needs to bring a water bottle to school each day. To prevent water bottles from getting lost, please be sure it is clearly labeled with your child's first and last name. You may also want to send your child's water bottle in a plastic Ziploc bag to prevent damaging your child's belongings if the bottle leaks or has condensation. Only water (no milk, soda, or flavored drinks) should be in this bottle.
Toys. Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school. We have many materials available for your child to use here at school. Bringing toys from home can distract students from learning, and they may be lost or broken. Any toys brought to school may be confiscated, so, please help keep them at home.
Birthdays. Our School's Policy Handout. Due to food allergies and other food sensitivities, parents may want to celebrate their child's birthday by providing a simple birthday gift or "goodie bag" for their classmates. In the past some of the birthday gifts/goodie bags have included: cool pencils and erasers, pop-it toys, fidget toys, art/craft kits, and keychains. Again, if a parent decides to do this for their child make sure to bring enough gifts/goodie bags for the whole class.
Your child may bring a birthday treat to share with the class. This is not ideal, due to food allergies but if this is the option a parent would like to do please email Mrs. Lilleboe if our class has any food allergies. Food treats must be store bought "mess free" treats like cookies, glazed donuts, brownies and/or fresh fruit. These items will show the ingredients on the package which will help identify possible food allergies. Fresh fruit is a great sweet treat for students too like grapes, strawberries, orange wedges and apple slices. Lastly, if your child wants to pass out birthday party invitations in class (during the school day), he or she must have an invitation for each child in the class (all boys or all girls is OK). Otherwise, please email or phone specific invitees parents outside the school day when only wanting to invite a few students from class.
I also give a small gift to each student. This typically includes a small treat, a bookmark, a pencil, or similar item. I pay close attention to food allergies and dietary differences when creating my birthday surprises, but if there are any issues you need me to be aware of, please let me know.
If you choose to have your child purchase a school lunch, you have an online payment option:
- My School Bucks. This option allows you to pay for your child's school lunch via credit card and provides you information on what your child is eating. However, there is a small fee to use this program. Click here for more information https://roundrockisd.org/departments/food-services/online-payment/
